A search through online or newspaper classified for black labs puppies will turn up many people selling or giving away black lab puppies and you may find ads on bulletin boards in many businesses as well. Pet shops and your local humane society are a great place to look too. Before you decide on getting one of these puppies, here are some things to take into consideration beforehand:

1) This type of dog is typically on the larger side so it will need a lot of space. If you have a decent size yard and a medium to large size home, this is ideal. A small apartment in a high rise building in a busy city is not.

2) This type of dog has a lot of energy and loves to play so if you don’t think you will have enough time to dedicate to your pet every day, than you may want to think twice.

3) These dogs need a lot of exercise and a walk at least once a day is necessary.

4) Because this is a larger dog, he or she will require more food than a smaller dog so this means an expense for you and you want to make sure you are able to provide for your dog financially.

Black lab puppies are usually ready to go to their new homes at six weeks of age. This is the best time because they will be young and not so attached to the mother and surroundings where they were born. The younger they are, the better they will adjust to their new home. Although small when they are young, remember that your puppy will grown into a friendly giant that will provide you with the friendship and companionship that no other breed of dog can supply!
