Effective Akita Training

Akita’s are not like other dog breeds. They are strong-willed, temperamental and can be a handful for inexperienced or even advanced dog owners.

Akitas are large dogs who were bred to be Japanese hunting dogs. These dogs are fierce dogs capable of holding a large bear at bay.

All that being said, Akitas are one of the most dependable and loyal dogs that mankind has known. They are affectionate, caring, and for the right owners they can be the perfect companion.

To be that companion, you will need some simple Akita training advice.

First of all, be aware that your cute little puppy is going to grow into a 100 pound dog. Things that may seem cute now, will not be so cute when he gets older. Under no circumstance should you ever allow an Akita – or any dog for that matter – to paw you or use its teeth on you. These are early signs that your new puppy is trying to find its place in the pack.

It is at this time, that you need to establish what is known as dominance. You physically stop the puppy from the action while giving it a firm “no.”

One of the most important things that you can do when training a puppy is to get the appropriate dog training collar. There are many different styles, types and colors for you to choose from. Not every collar will work with every dog.

The sooner that you can begin working on training your Akita, the better. Puppies are the easiest to train, as they are the most willing to please. Use this to your advantage.

Until you know for certain that your Akita puppy is sufficiently well-trained, always be sure to have a leash on him.

This is also an effective way to establish your dominance. Good luck with your little bundle of fur and remember that you need to be in control at all times.
