The 6th edition of the Annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition has just concluded. The Loews Hotels conducts the competition as an extension of the Loews Loves Pets program.
This program is the hotel’s way of saying that they not only take in pets, but also will take care of them. Each pet gets their own tag, treat and bowl when they check in, just like their owners do.
The Surf Dog Competition is a fund-raising event with the proceeds going to charity. This competition has proved to be very popular and every year, not only are there more entrants, there are more visitors who come to watch the competition.
There are three events, the Small Surf Dog for dogs under 40 lbs, the Large Surf Dog and the Tandem. Tandem is when more than one dog gets on the surf board, and is the most popular of the three.
This year, Kalani, a Golden Retriever won the Large Surf Dog competition, and the So Cal Surf Dog Team not only won the Tandem competition, they broke the record with 5 dogs on one surf board. Abbie Girl won the Small Surf Dog Competition.
The winners get the ultimate pet vacation at the Loews Bay Resort. Coronado not only hosts this competition, but also two others which together make up the Surf Dog season here.
